Pinhook Vertical Series : Tiz Rye Time 4 year

As I taste my way through this Willy Wonka land of bourbon and whisk(e)y, I am in awe of the unique stories that formulate the very existence of the distilleries. Some stories date as far back as Daniel Boone through to the modern tale of tradition being broken and remolded. The house of Pinhook is among the many modern distilleries creating new traditions.

What is unique with Pinhook is that they push the envelope with their barreling process. Instead of using a barrel that has a pre-existing finish, they take on ingredients, blend them in small batches- with their respective distinct flavors. Each batch is different. Each batch resonates a different flavor profile. Thus, the Vertical Series will span over 9 years, collections will be both bourbons and rye whiskey that highlight promising young thoroughbreds.

I have the Tiz Rye time 4 year.

MASHBILL: 95% Rye, 5% Malted Barley – This is a rye whisk(e)y.

PROOF: 97 – This is smooth, there is no bite just a welcoming hug from start to finish.

What I could smell- Let me preface this…… seasons are changing, and barometric pressures are constantly fluctuating. Thus, my sense of smell is off with allergies ERGGHHHHH! But smelling coffee beans, warming, and smelling the back of my hand (thanks Jen!) has helped tremendously! So! What I can smell is warm sweetness like caramel/toffee.

Here is the cool thing about the taste and it has really stuck with me. On the second or third sip……. I taste Apricot as it unfolds and finishes! Pinhook mentions that they also have tangerine peels, molasses, cedar and clove.

PRICE: This is affordable in the $50 ish price range.

Recommend or Texas size HARD NO: RECOMMEND!!!

I am all for collecting quality bourbons, rye whiskies, and Whiskies. This is one of them. I’m sorry folks on this one, just enjoy it neat or with a few drops of water. This one’s a sipper. Enjoy the flavor profile. As Always, until the next find…… clink clink beautiful people!
